The UNT Dallas Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology offers a Master's of Science degree in Criminal Justice (MSCJ). The 36-hour online MS degree is a focused and highly immersive graduate degree that combines theory, application, and experiential learning in 8-week terms. Criminal Justice studies the practices, policies, and institutions of governments directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, and sanctioning those who violate laws with criminal penalties and rehabilitation efforts. Students in the MSCJ will delve into the social and behavioral sciences, as well as the relation of law and ethics to the phenomenon of crime. The MSCJ prepares students for leadership and service positions in the justice and social systems that support the administration of justice. The core courses offer students a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the field, and advanced electives provide the opportunity to explore specialized areas of interest. The MSCJ offers a concentration in Justice and Mental Health Policy that focuses on the intersectionality of mental health and its various components within the criminal justice system.
